About this event
Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association (“Amistad”) was created to foster community, professional development, and growth among attorneys of color in the Long Island area and we seek to continue our great work.
As we all strive to restore a sense of normalcy after the COVID-19 Pandemic while continuing the momentum of the 2020 Civil Rights Movement, Amistad is excited to continue our level of community involvement and programming through these times and beyond. During the Pandemic, Amistad, like others, remained committed to providing the local and legal minority communities with effective and timely programming.
This level of excellence is not new to Amistad. 2021 marks the 25th Anniversary of Amistad providing networking, leadership, and professional growth opportunities to a diverse group of attorneys of color who work and/or live on Long Island. Over the course of its existence Amistad has worked collectively to meet our mission of developing a network of opportunities for attorneys from the diaspora in both the public and private sector of the Long Island legal community. We continue to tap into the bar leaders of the future, by advocating for their involvement in increasing diversity on the bench, as elected officials, law school faculty and lawyers with majority law firms. Equally as important we continue to encourage the participation of our members in working to create a strong community through supporting the education of our youth and supporting community-based initiatives … because we believe that “it takes a village”.
To celebrate the momentous occasion of AMISTAD’s 25th Anniversary, we are holding a Garden Reception at Oheka Castle on July 29, 2021 from 6:00PM to 8:30PM EDT. We hope we can count on you to join us as we celebrate this milestone!
